PATERSON — Detectives investigating gunfire in the 1st Ward early Sunday morning arrested two men who authorities say threw two loaded handguns out of a minivan as they were being pursued by police, officials said.

Paterson police recovered two handguns and arrested one man over the weekend as part of a citywide crackdown on crime, authorities said Sunday night.
Luis Reyes, 37, a Paterson resident, was arrested at about 2:30 Saturday morning after police responded to a call about a man with a gun in the area of Main Street and Weiss Street, Police Director Jerry Speziale said.

After an intensive investigation that drew in community participation, police have caught and charged a 21-year-old city man in the shooting death of a 63-year-old man on a crime-plagued 4th Ward street.
Detectives arrested Treivon Huntley at 2 p.m. Sunday near his home on Camden Street in the 2nd Ward and charged him with murder, attempted murder, and weapons offenses, said city police Capt. Heriberto Rodriguez.

The city’s police director credited the quick thinking of an 11-year-old boy who phoned police when a man and woman came under a vicious attack by a family pit bull.
The attack ended early Tuesday when a police officer, Stephanie Gastelo, shot and killed the pit bull as it mauled the man and woman, one of whom is the boy’s parent. The couple had kept the animal as a pet in the home they shared with the 11-year-old, author.
Paterson police write 2,720 traffic tickets over Dominican parade weekend

City police issued 2,720 traffic tickets during a three-day crackdown over the weekend that also resulted in 31 arrests, 159 vehicles being towed, and 174 summonses for violations of city ordinances on noise, public drinking and other quality of life issues, officials said.
The crackdown took place during the weekend of Paterson’s annual Dominican Parade, a Sunday event that prompts parties during the days beforehand.
Paterson police release video of suspect attacking woman

PATERSON - Police asked for the help of the public in identifying a man who punched and kicked a woman on July 26, then escaped with her purse and cell phone.
The man, described as being in his mid-20s, attacked the woman near the intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Market Street, police said.
